From the outgoing editor

First things first, we apologize for the lack of Blue Skies Mag in your mailbox. We haven’t communicated what’s been happening here in DeLand and if we were you, we would be aggravated and wondering just what the hell is going on.

Solutions first, then I’ll explain how we got here and where we’re going. There are two issues for print subscribers: a behind-schedule magazine and lack of print issues. For the first (which also affects digital subscribers), we’ve extended everyone’s subscriptions one year.

For the second, we have (for reasons in the next section) suspended the print magazine temporarily. Our goal is to return to the print version, not to become a digital-only magazine. Right now, we are aiming for a spring or summer return. In the meantime, we have frozen print subscriptions, so the remaining issues we owe you will still be mailed, and we’ve added free digital versions to your subscription.

So, why are we here? In short, I bit off more than I could chew. I started school last fall and thought I could keep everything going just the same as before. If you’ve ever tried to turn on your school brain after a 20-year layoff, you probably know what happened: I couldn’t keep everything going just the same as before. So, the magazine got way behind schedule because I, as the editor, couldn’t produce a magazine every month. And because there are only two of us running the show, I as bookkeeper, didn’t notice just how deep a cash-flow hole that was creating. So, we faced a print issue without the money to pay the printer or ourselves.

In short, I forked up and I’m so sorry my mistakes affected you all.

She has so many great ideas and lots of energy for this next chapter in our smutty little rag’s story and I can’t wait to see where she takes us all!

I have loved every second of editing this little thing we called Blue Skies Mag and especially loved the connections I’ve made with readers and contributors, so thank you all for literally the greatest decade of my life. Kolla and I will still own the mag for as long as time lets us, so I’m not leaving entirely, but I will very much miss putting each month to bed and sharing awesome people’s words and photos with other awesome people’s eyes.
